BusinessOS vs Missive

Missive is one of the best shared inboxes there is, built for teams that run on email. BusinessOS is built for the business that is mostly you: the inbox, and the clients, proposals and follow-ups the inbox is about.

What Missive does well, and what it leaves to you.

Judged for a business of one to five people that sells its time: a studio, a consultancy, a trade, a practice.

Where Missive is strong

  • Internal comments, assignment and shared team inboxes, all on the email thread itself.
  • Email, SMS, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and live chat in one place.
  • Rules, canned responses and more than 50 integrations, including HubSpot and Pipedrive.
  • An AI assistant that drafts replies, and sends nothing until you approve it.
  • A 30 day free trial, with no card needed.

What it leaves to you

  • It is an email client, not a business workspace. Proposals, files and client records live somewhere else.
  • Client records beyond an address book mean connecting a separate CRM, at a separate price.
  • No proposals or quotes your client can open and accept online.
  • Every person is a paid seat, and the AI runs on paid credits or your own key.
  • Its features are about coordinating a team. With one to five people there is less to coordinate.

Side by side.

Where BusinessOS is different.

Built for the business that is mostly you, not for a team that needs coordinating.

  • An agent that asks before it acts, wherever you reach itBos drafts replies, proposes meetings and suggests tasks, in the app or on WhatsApp. Nothing is sent, and no invite goes out, without your approval. Claude or ChatGPT connected to BusinessOS cannot send email at all. Every action Bos takes is recorded in the activity log.
  • Your first user is in the price£54 a month is everything for one person: the workspace, email and calendar, email on your own domain and your website hosted. Each extra person is £19. No add-on to unlock the AI.
  • A website, built for you and yours to changeBos writes the first version from your business profile and we host it. Change the wording yourself in the editor as often as you like, or ask Bos. One design change a month is included.
  • The client work is in itContacts that keep themselves current, and proposals your client opens and accepts online, next to the email they came from.

What a small team pays each month.

Missive Productive is the shared inbox, its AI assistant and integrations, per person, and the website is yours to build. BusinessOS is the whole workspace and Bos, email on your own domain, and a website built for you, hosted and kept up to date.

When Missive is the better choice.

If one of these is you, use Missive. It is good at what it is for.

  • Several people answer the same inbox and need to assign and comment on threads.
  • Your customers reach you on SMS, Instagram or live chat as much as on email.
  • You already run a CRM you like and only want a better inbox in front of it.

Is BusinessOS a Missive alternative?

For a business of one to five people, yes. Missive is a shared inbox. BusinessOS is the inbox plus contacts, calendar, tasks, proposals and files, with Bos, an AI agent, working across all of them. If several people need to assign and comment on the same threads, Missive is the better tool for that.

Is BusinessOS cheaper than Missive?

Not seat for seat. Missive's Productive plan is $24 a user a month on annual billing, and BusinessOS is £54 a month for everything, including your first user. But Missive is the inbox only. BusinessOS also covers your clients, proposals, email on your own domain and your website hosted, which with Missive are a CRM, a proposal tool, a mail host and a web host on top. Each extra person is £19.

Does Bos send email without asking?

No. Bos drafts replies, proposes meetings and suggests tasks. Nothing is sent, and no invite goes out, without your approval. Every action Bos takes is recorded in the activity log.

Can I keep my Gmail or Outlook account?

Yes. Connect Gmail or Microsoft 365 over OAuth, and the calendar comes with it. Or take email on your own domain directly, with no outside mailbox to connect.

Does BusinessOS do SMS or social messages like Missive?

No. BusinessOS covers email, and Bos on WhatsApp for you to talk to. It does not bring in SMS, Instagram, Messenger or live chat from customers.

Can I try it first?

Yes. 14 days with every feature, and no card needed to start.
