BusinessOS vs Macro

Macro wants to replace Notion, and your inbox, chat and CRM with it. BusinessOS has a narrower aim: the clients, email, proposals and follow-ups of a service business of one to five, run by an agent that asks before it acts.

What Macro does well, and what it leaves to you.

Judged for a business of one to five people that sells its time: a studio, a consultancy, a trade, a practice.

Where Macro is strong

  • Email, chat, documents, tasks and a CRM in one tab.
  • Live collaboration on documents, for teams that write together.
  • Agents that work across the whole workspace, and ask before sending email.
  • Open source under AGPLv3, with self-hosting allowed.
  • A free plan, and a 30 day trial of Pro.

What it leaves to you

  • Its email works with Google accounts only for now. Outlook and IMAP are listed as coming soon.
  • It is an email client, not a mail host, so email on your own domain still needs Google Workspace behind it.
  • No proposals or quotes your client can open and accept online. An agent can attach a file, not a link to accept.
  • Every member is a paid seat, at the same price whether you are one person or twenty.
  • Docs, chat and team memory are a lot of workspace to set up when most of the business is you.

Side by side.

Where BusinessOS is different.

Built for the business that is mostly you, not for a team that needs coordinating.

  • An agent that asks before it acts, wherever you reach itBos drafts replies, proposes meetings and suggests tasks, in the app or on WhatsApp. Nothing is sent, and no invite goes out, without your approval. Claude or ChatGPT connected to BusinessOS cannot send email at all. Every action Bos takes is recorded in the activity log.
  • Your first user is in the price£54 a month is everything for one person: the workspace, email and calendar, email on your own domain and your website hosted. Each extra person is £19. No add-on to unlock the AI.
  • A website, built for you and yours to changeBos writes the first version from your business profile and we host it. Change the wording yourself in the editor as often as you like, or ask Bos. One design change a month is included.
  • The client work is in itContacts that keep themselves current, and proposals your client opens and accepts online, next to the email they came from.

What a small team pays each month.

Macro Pro is the whole workspace with its standard AI allowance, per person, and the website is yours to build. BusinessOS is the whole workspace and Bos, email on your own domain, and a website built for you, hosted and kept up to date.

Paying monthly, before tax. Macro prices are from its own pricing page in October 2026 and are charged in US dollars. Squarespace Basic is a builder you design and write yourself; its price is from the same month. Our website is £49 once to build, and a domain you register through us is at cost. Pay annually and every BusinessOS monthly charge is 20% off.

When Macro is the better choice.

If one of these is you, use Macro. It is good at what it is for.

  • Your team writes documents together and wants them in the same place as its email.
  • You want open source software you can host yourself.
  • You run on Google Workspace and want team chat and a sales pipeline in one tool.

Is BusinessOS a Macro alternative?

For a service business of one to five people, yes. Both bring email, clients and tasks into one place with AI across them. Macro adds team chat and collaborative documents. BusinessOS adds proposals your client accepts online, works with Microsoft 365 as well as Gmail, and can take email on your own domain directly.

Macro says it replaces Notion. Does BusinessOS?

Not as a wiki or a document editor, and we would not claim it. BusinessOS replaces the inbox, the client spreadsheet, the proposal tool and the task list a small business runs on. If your Notion is your company handbook, keep it.

Is BusinessOS cheaper than Macro?

Not for one person. Macro Pro is $40 a month, and BusinessOS is £54, which also hosts email on your own domain and your website, neither of which Macro does. The gap closes as you add people: Macro charges a full seat for everyone, and BusinessOS charges £19 for each extra person.

Does Bos send email without asking?

No. Bos drafts replies, proposes meetings and suggests tasks. Nothing is sent, and no invite goes out, without your approval. Every action Bos takes is recorded in the activity log.

I use Outlook. Can I use BusinessOS?

Yes. Connect Microsoft 365 (Outlook) over OAuth and its calendar comes with it. Gmail works the same way.

Can I try it first?

Yes. 14 days with every feature, and no card needed to start.
